best car seat 0-8 years Page 5

The “best” 0–8 years car seat is the one that fits your child, your car, and your patience—in that order. Look for Australian Standard AS/NZS 1754 compliance, a rock-solid top tether, deep side-impact protection, and an easy no-rethread harness so you’re not wrestling straps like a budget octopus.

Good 0–8 (A4/G) seats keep kids rear-facing longer (great for safety) and harnessed up to about 8, but they’re bulkier, so test-fit in your car before you fall in love. Expect new pricing roughly $350–$900 in Australia; used is cheaper, but only buy if you know the full history, it hasn’t been in a crash, and the expiry (often around 10 years from manufacture) is well in the future.

Get it professionally fitted and check that your child sits within the height markers—age is a suggestion, not a permission slip. There’s no universal winner here, just the right combo of safety, fit, and sanity for your daily school run circus.
