Chasing the best cheap SUV in Australia for 2023? New mainstream options typically land around $23k–$35k drive-away, while lightly-used 2–3 year-old examples can dip to $18k–$28k if you hunt smart. Here are worth-a-look contenders:

• MG ZS / ZST: Bargain pricing and big features; dynamics and cabin polish trail the class.
• GWM Haval Jolion: Generous kit and space; ride/steering feel is more comfy than sporty.
• Mitsubishi ASX: Old but honest, easy to own; dated safety/tech versus newer rivals.
• Kia Seltos (base) / Hyundai Venue: Strong warranty and user-friendly cabins; sharper pricing on base trims only.
• Suzuki Vitara: Light, efficient and simple; interior feels basic and safety spec can vary.

Pick the one that suits your budget and priorities, then argue about it at the next BBQ like a true patriot.
