best go karts for adults

Chasing the best go karts for adults? Start by picking your poison: a tough 4‑stroke recreational kart (200–270 cc) for fuss-free fun around 60–80 km/h, or a shrieky 125 cc 2‑stroke race kart that’ll nudge 100+ km/h and make your mates reconsider their life choices.

Recreational rigs are cheaper to run, sip regular unleaded and shrug off abuse; race karts are lighter, properly quick and demand maintenance plus track etiquette. Expect new prices of roughly AUD 2,500–6,000 for rec karts and AUD 7,000–12,000 for race setups, with used buys about AUD 1,500–7,000 on places like Tradingpost.

Check the fit: adjustable seat/pedals, strong brakes and tyres you can actually source locally, then make sure there’s parts support and a nearby venue that allows your kart. If you’re new, a 4‑stroke single (GX200-class or equivalent) is the sensible start; save the two‑stroke fireworks for when you can string a lap without gardening.
