best hatch back

“Best hatchback” is like “best coffee”—depends whether you’re late for work or late for track day.

For bulletproof ease, the Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3 nail refinement, safety tech, and low running costs.

Chasing value? Hyundai i30 and the new Suzuki Swift keep prices friendly while still feeling sprightly around town.

Want a bit of fizz? Volkswagen Golf (and GTI if you fancy a grin) brings polish and highway manners that make long trips feel shorter.

On a tight budget, the latest MG 3 is cheap to own and park, though it’s more commuter than canyon carver.

If space matters, the Honda Civic hatch is roomier and grown-up, but the price tag knows it.

Test-drive the short-list, check insurance quotes and fuel economy, and buy the one that makes you look back in the car park.
