best holden commodore to buy Page 7

The “best” Holden Commodore depends on whether you want rumble, refinement, or a bargain that still carts the cricket gear.

• VE (2006–13): Big, tough feel and strong V8s; watch for early 3.6 Alloytec timing-chain issues, tired suspension bushes and worn diff mounts.
• VF/VF II (2013–17): Best-built locally, nicer cabin, and the SS/Redline with LS3 is a national treasure; expect thirst and rising prices.
• ZB (2018–20): Euro comfort and value with 2.0T FWD or V6 AWD; not rear-drive and resale stigma persists—ensure proper servicing of the auto/AWD.

Whichever you fancy, buy on condition and history: full service records, no accident tales, smooth shifts, and no timing-chain rattle on Alloytecs; then budget for tyres and brakes.
