best off-road caravans Page 8

Asking for the best off-road caravan is like asking for the best hiking boot—depends where you’re going and how much punishment you fancy.

For serious Aussie tracks, prioritise a robust chassis, generous ground clearance, independent suspension, proper dust sealing (ideally with positive pressure), and ample GVM/payload so water, spares and tools don’t tip it over the limit.

Look for stone protection, all-terrain tyres, a quality off-road coupling, and off-grid kit like decent water capacity, solar and lithium batteries—because caravan parks aren’t always where the view is.

Match the tow weight to your vehicle’s ratings (GVM, GCM and tow ball download) and get a weighbridge ticket rather than trusting optimistic brochures.

Before you buy, crawl underneath for weld quality, wiring and plumbing routing, and check for cupboard dust after a test on corrugations; dealers love asphalt tests, the bush does not.

Hunt around Tradingpost for options, then book an independent pre-purchase inspection and let the red dirt do the talking.
