Short answer: there isn’t a single “best” fuel brand in Australia for 2022, because all petrol and diesel sold here must meet strict Australian Fuel Quality Standards.
“Quality” for most cars comes down to using the right octane—91, 95 or 98 RON—not a magic logo; higher octane resists knock, but won’t make a 91-tuned engine suddenly sprout extra kilowatts.
Stick to the RON your handbook specifies (E10 is fine if your car approves it), and prefer busy, well-maintained servos where the fuel turns over quickly.
Premium grades usually carry stronger detergent packages that can help keep injectors clean over time, which is nice but not a substitute for proper maintenance.
For diesels, high-turnover sites and good filtration matter more than brand, and Australia’s low-sulphur diesel is the norm.
So no beauty pageant winner here—just buy fresh fuel of the correct grade and your engine will be happy.
