best sat phone australia Page 8

Chasing the best sat phone in Australia? Coverage beats clever marketing out bush, so focus on networks first, handsets second.

• Iridium 9575 Extreme: truly global coverage (LEO), fast link-up, very rugged; downsides are chunky pricing and voice quality that's more "CB radio" than concert hall.
• Inmarsat IsatPhone 2: excellent battery life and clear audio across Australia with a clear view north; less happy in deep gullies or dense canopy, and not global near the poles.
• Thuraya XT-LITE/XT-PRO: lighter on the wallet and fine across most of Australia; coverage is footprint-based and can get patchy at fringes or offshore, so line-of-sight matters.

Pick based on where you roam and who needs to reach you, then fuss over buttons and antennas later - used gear pops up on Tradingpost if you fancy a bargain.
