If your budget caps at $30k, you’re shopping smart, not stingy—there’s plenty of small-car talent in Australia.

For new buys, look at Suzuki Swift (~$24–28k drive-away), Mazda2 (~$23–27k + ORC), Kia Picanto (~$19–23k drive-away), the updated MG 3 and MG 5 sedans (~$23–29k drive-away), and base Hyundai i30 or Kia Cerato manuals that often hover near the $30k mark on run-out.

If you’d like a little more polish, the second-hand aisle is your friend: late-model Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, and Hyundai i30 from 2018–2021 with low kilometres typically land between $18–28k.

Prioritise ANCAP 5-star safety, AEB, lane keep assist, and a long warranty (Kia’s 7-year and MG’s lengthy coverage are handy), then factor in servicing costs and insurance.
