“Best” small off-road caravan? Aim for a 12–14 ft hybrid with independent suspension, proper dust sealing, a DO35-style hitch, at least 150–200 L of water, and 200–400 Ah of battery with decent solar—then you’re playing in the right league. Keep ATM around 1,800–2,500 kg and towball weight under about 220 kg so a Ranger/Prado class 4x4 won’t wheeze up the range. Check underbody protection, recovery points, and whether the cabinetry is actually screwed and glued, not just wishful thinking. New prices typically span about AUD 45k–120k depending on brand and bling; used examples land roughly AUD 25k–90k if you’re patient. Take a test tow on corrugations if you can, and comb owner forums for dust leaks and hinge sag stories before you hand over the folding. If you want to browse real-world options, Tradingpost often has a good spread of small off-road hybrids and caravans to compare.
