Chasing the best small SUV in Australia in 2022 under $30k? You’re shopping the sweet spot: think Mitsubishi ASX ES, Suzuki Vitara, Hyundai Venue, Kia Stonic, MG ZS and the value-packed Haval Jolion.

New, the sharp deals sat around $23k–$30k drive-away (AUD) depending on spec and state; used 2019–2021 examples of the same lot (plus Mazda CX-3 and Toyota Yaris Cross) typically land $18k–$28k (AUD) with sensible kilometres.

Prioritise AEB, lane-keep, and blind-spot monitoring, because hitting shopping trolleys isn’t a hobby, and check for 5‑star ANCAP where possible.

Expect real-world fuel use around 6–8 L/100 km, and a boot big enough for a weekly shop plus a rogue beach umbrella.
