In Australia, the "best" sunglasses are the ones that block 100% UV and comply with AS/NZS 1067.1—style points are optional, sunburnt retinas are not.
Go for Category 3 lenses for everyday driving; Category 4 is very dark and not legal for driving. Polarised lenses tame glare off roads and water, while a wraparound shape gives better side coverage—handy when the sun attacks from the cricket pitch. Choose durable polycarbonate for impact resistance or glass for top clarity, and look for anti-reflective inner coatings plus hydrophobic smarts. Fit trumps fashion: snug on nose and temples, no cheek rub, no light leaks. Spend what you like—pricey logos don’t protect better than a well-made pair with the proper standard label.
