best suv under $40k australia 2023

Chasing the best SUV under $40k in Australia for 2023? Good news: you don’t need to sell a kidney—just pick your flavour of sensible.

Kia Seltos and Hyundai Kona bring tidy dynamics, properly modern safety tech, and long warranties, while Mazda CX-30 feels posher but trades rear space for polish.

Subaru Forester base is roomy with standard AWD, though thirstier; Toyota RAV4 GX 2WD can squeak under budget if you can actually find one without a wait.

Value fiends: MG ZST/HS and Haval Jolion throw in generous kit and 7-year coverage, but refinement and resale lag the Koreans and Japanese.

Before you buy, sit in the back, check AEB/lane-keep, and compare servicing costs and dealer support; the best one is the one you’ll happily live with for years.
