best tents australia 2023 Page 7

There’s no single “best tent” in Australia for 2023—just the best one for your patience level and the weather’s sense of humour.

For quick weekends, an instant-up dome is fast (1–3 min) and decent in waterproofing (≈2000–3000 mm), while canvas touring tents trade weight for durability and heat resistance.

Size up one person beyond your headcount, look for full-length flys, alloy poles, taped seams, and vestibules, and avoid mystery-fabric specials.

Budget around $100–$250 for basic domes, $300–$700 for solid family or touring options, and $800–$1,500+ for premium canvas or expedition gear.

If you’re coastal, prioritise UV resistance and ventilation; if alpine, chase geodesic frames and snow skirts.
