best tow vehicles australia 2023 Page 4

Hunting the best tow vehicles in Australia for 2023? The favourites are Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, Nissan Patrol, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D‑MAX/Mazda BT‑50, and the American bruisers like RAM 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado—most rated to 3,500 kg braked (RAM/Silverado up to 4,500 kg with the right setup).

Tow properly and mind GCM, payload, and tow-ball download (many utes limit the ball to around 350 kg), plus fit a quality brake controller and weight distribution for big vans.

Look for long wheelbases, stout cooling, integrated trailer tech, and plenty of torque—diesel V6s shine, while the Patrol’s V8 still yanks like a farm gate in a southerly.

Hauling 3+ tonne caravans often? Think RAM/Silverado; boats and horse floats under 3 tonnes are the sweet spot for the dual-cabs and the big Toyotas/Nissan.

Always check the owner’s manual and local regs; consult official documentation for exact figures.
