Ah, the noble ute—Australia's true blue workhorse and weekend warrior. The Ford Ranger boasts a muscular 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine with up to 157 kW and 500 Nm, perfect for towing those annoying trailers, but its cabin can feel a touch utilitarian. Meanwhile, the Toyota Hilux is the country’s most reliable legend, offering a 2.8L turbo-diesel with 150 kW and a no-nonsense interior that screams durability. The Mitsubishi Triton tries to charm with affordability and a 2.4L turbo-diesel, but it’s not quite the beast the others are. Lastly, the Isuzu D-MAX is the dark horse, combining a 3.0L turbo-diesel with a comfy ride and rugged reputation. Prices for new models usually start around $30,000 AUD for base variants, shooting up to $70,000 AUD for loaded versions. Used ones can be found on Tradingpost or CarShowroom for a smidge less.
