bill of sales

In Australia, a bill of sale (basically a very serious receipt) records the handover of a vehicle from seller to buyer.

It should note buyer/seller names and addresses, VIN/registration, make/model, odometer, price paid, date/time, any conditions (“as‑is” or warranties), and both signatures.

It doesn’t replace your state’s transfer forms or RWC/roadworthy requirements; it simply proves who paid whom for what.

Most states don’t legally require one for private sales, but having it can prevent the “he said, she said” saga later.

Print two copies, snap a photo, and check your state authority’s advice for any extras before the ink dries.
