bmw pop up lights Page 9

Hunting BMWs with pop-up headlights? You’re down to the bona fide unicorns: the M1 (E26, late ’70s–early ’80s) and the original 8 Series (E31, 1989–1999). That’s it for production models—no E30s hiding eyelids, no secret 5 Series party tricks. They look sensational, right up until a headlight motor throws a tantrum, so budget for age-related electrics and brittle plastics. Values vary wildly; the M1 is supercar money, while E31s range from project to pampered collector. If you’re shopping locally, Tradingpost sometimes lands an 8 Series; the M1 is museum-spotting territory.
