An Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) report released in March 2000 proclaimed that over the twenty years since the children's (C) classification was introduced to regulate production for commercial television, there was a clear indication of 'an increase in the quantity, quality, diversity and Australianness of programmes for children'. The highly subjective issue of quality remains an area of contention with some independent producers. How does Australian children's television stand up in an increasingly competitive market?
