Maybe it was just his name, the same as her brother, Christy, who was only a baby when he died. It was such a simple instinct - saving an innocent toddler from abuse - but things had gotten so complicated, so confusing. For one thing, she never expected to love the child so much, as if he were her own. Then there was Raylene, her co-conspirator, who thought they could go on forever as a little makeshift family. But what if Christy's mother had called the police, who might be looking for them? What if Feena's mother stopped believing the excuses? What if Feena felt the pressure rising out of control, and there was no way out? In a gripping chain of events building up to a surprising denouement, this suspenseful story by Louise Hawes follows a lonely teenager who longs for the unconditional love of a child - but finds that it comes at a cost that she may not be ready to pay.
