bsb and account number scams Page 5

BSB and account number scams are the banking equivalent of changing your house number, then stealing your own mail—sneaky and surprisingly effective.

Crims hijack invoices or emails, swap in their bank details, and your transfer disappears faster than free Friday arvo sausage rolls.

Bank transfers are fast and final, so prevention is everything: always confirm new or changed details by calling a known phone number, not the one in the fresh, shiny email.

Use PayID where possible, lock down your email with strong passwords and 2FA, and consider a tiny test payment before sending the full amount.

Be suspicious of urgency, odd wording, and altered PDFs; if anything smells off, pause and verify.

If you’ve paid the wrong account, contact your bank immediately and report it to ReportCyber—speed is your only friend here.
