Short answer: once upon a time, yes; today, not even close.
From about 2011 to 2020 the BT‑50 shared Ford’s T6 DNA, including the 3.2‑litre five‑cyl diesel (~147 kW/470 Nm) and 2.2‑litre four‑cyl diesel options. Since 2020 the BT‑50 switched teams to Isuzu with the 3.0‑litre 4JJ3 turbo‑diesel (140 kW/450 Nm), while the current Ranger offers a 2.0 bi‑turbo diesel (154 kW/500 Nm) and a 3.0 V6 diesel (184 kW/600 Nm).
So if you’re cross‑shopping new ones, the engines are as related as chalk and cheddar; only older BT‑50s and Rangers are siblings under the bonnet.
