Ah, the buggy car — a glorious nod to the past and a wild ride for the present. These lightweight, open-frame vehicles are often powered by small, nimble engines, making them perfect for tearing up dunes or pottering along the beach. Expect light chassis, minimal bodywork, and engines ranging from 500cc to 2000cc depending on your budget and taste for mayhem.

Prices vary widely: new buggies can set you back anywhere from about $10,000 to $30,000 AUD, while used ones on Tradingpost or CarShowroom may be found for less if you're willing to embrace their quirks. If you're after a daily driver, best look elsewhere; these are toys to be enjoyed on weekends with a helmet and a grin. Consult specific manufacturer specs for exact details.
