Buying a car in NSW and shifting it to QLD is a registration migration with a side of paperwork and a whiff of bureaucracy. You can drive it up on valid NSW rego, or if it’s unregistered, grab an Unregistered Vehicle Permit; once in QLD, get a Safety Certificate (roadworthy) from an approved inspection station. Within 14 days of garaging it in QLD, head to TMR with ID and QLD address, proof of purchase, the NSW rego papers, and the Safety Certificate, pay stamp duty plus rego and plate fees, and surrender the NSW plates. QLD rego includes CTP insurance (your NSW greenslip doesn’t follow you), so budget for that too. If anything looks dodgy on the VIN or history, TMR may ask for an identity inspection. Keep copies of everything and cancel NSW toll tags unless you enjoy surprise invoices at 5am.
