buying a car interstate nsw to qld Page 9

Buying a car in NSW and taking it to Queensland is easy enough—bring patience, sunscreen, and a pen that actually works.

You can’t transfer NSW rego to QLD; once home, you’ll register it in QLD, pick a CTP insurer, pay stamp duty, and get a Queensland Safety Certificate (roadworthy) sorted.

If the NSW rego won’t cover the trip, grab an unregistered vehicle permit and temp cover, or book a transporter—either way, keep plates and paperwork legit.

Do a PPSR check, match the VIN to the compliance plate, and make sure the odometer story doesn’t read like fantasy fiction.

In QLD you generally have 14 days to get the registration sorted and surrender the NSW plates for any refund; keep a proper bill of sale and receipts.

Hunt the right car on Tradingpost, then enjoy the drive north; just don’t brag at the servo unless you like long chats about fuel economy.
