Buying a car in QLD? Here’s the quick pit‑stop guide, minus the pit crew. Make sure the seller hands over a current Queensland Safety Certificate (RWC) and that the VIN matches all the paperwork—no surprises, thanks. Run a PPSR check to confirm it’s not stolen, written‑off, or still under finance, and eyeball the TMR rego status.

Transfer the registration within 14 days via TMR, and budget for the transfer fee plus vehicle duty; CTP insurance sits with your rego in Queensland. If it’s unregistered, you’ll need a fresh RWC, plates, rego, and possibly an unregistered vehicle permit to get it home legally. Buying from a licensed dealer can mean a statutory warranty on certain used cars and a brief cooling‑off period (auctions excluded), so keep everything in writing—and compare prices on Tradingpost to keep sellers honest.
