Buying a car in WA? Easy—if you don’t let shiny paint hypnotise your wallet.

Run a PPSR check, eyeball the service history, and get a pre-purchase inspection before the seller says "she’s mint, mate".

In WA you lodge the transfer within 14 days via DoTDirect and cough up vehicle licence duty (stamp duty) plus a transfer fee.

No routine roadworthy is required for a simple ownership transfer, but make sure it’s currently licensed and that CTP is covered in the rego.

From dealers, you still have Australian Consumer Law protections, but read the contract—cooling-off periods generally don’t apply in WA.

Line up finance and comprehensive insurance before you drive off; otherwise you’re one kangaroo away from an expensive lesson.
