Buying a NSW car in QLD is perfectly doable; the trick is what happens after the handshake.
If you want it on Queensland plates, you’ll need a QLD Safety Certificate (NSW checks don’t carry over), proof of identity and address, and to pay stamp duty, rego and plate fees—then hand over the NSW plates like yesterday’s flip-flops.
You can usually drive it home on its current NSW rego if it’s valid, but for inspections or if the rego lapses you may need an Unregistered Vehicle Permit to stay on the right side of the constabulary.
Bottom line: you don’t “transfer” interstate rego; you re-register in QLD, simple as a sausage sizzle—just check Queensland TMR’s current rules before you set off.
