buying an unregistered car vic Page 4

Buying an unregistered car in Victoria is like adopting a high-maintenance pet—you get the thrill, but the paperwork bites. Firstly, unregistered means no roadworthy certificate, so expect to fork out for a mechanical inspection and repairs. You’ll need to pay stamp duty based on the vehicle’s market value and then apply for registration yourself. The onus is on you to ensure it meets VicRoads standards before it hits the road. Also, don't forget compulsory third-party insurance is mandatory, even for unregistered vehicles if you plan to drive them.

For prices, unregistered cars often come cheaper on sites like Tradingpost or CarShowroom, but factor in extra costs for registration and repairs. Always check the vehicle's history with VicRoads to avoid any nasty surprises like outstanding fines or stolen vehicles.
