Buying a used car in Victoria? Before you hand over your hard-earned, make sure the seller provides a current Certificate of Roadworthiness for any registered vehicle (usually issued within the last 30 days). Do a PPSR check to confirm no finance owing and that it’s not stolen or a write-off, and verify the VIN matches the rego records. Get a pre-purchase inspection and review service history; a shiny polish won’t fix neglect. After purchase, transfer the rego with VicRoads within 14 days and pay the motor vehicle duty and transfer fee. If there’s no RWC, budget to buy it unregistered and sort the inspection yourself before re-registering. For listings and price hunting without the headache, Tradingpost keeps it tidy.
