Short answer: no. In NSW, L plates are only for learner drivers; a full licence holder driving with L plates displayed can be fined and attract demerits. It also confuses everyone behind you who’s suddenly expecting 40 km/h cornering and stalled hill starts. If you’re supervising a learner, the learner drives with the Ls up; when you’re driving, the Ls come off or are covered. Remove the plates when they’re not needed, and everyone’s sanity remains intact. For the latest penalties and exemptions, check the NSW road rules or Service NSW.
