can p platers drive v6 nsw Page 4

Short version: yes, a V6 is fine for NSW P‑platers if it’s not classed as a high‑powered vehicle—cylinder count isn’t the rulebook.

NSW bans cars over 130 kW per tonne, plus most petrol turbo/supercharged models and heavily modified engines; humble, naturally aspirated V6s that sit under the threshold are generally allowed.

Turbo diesels are okay, because the ban targets high-powered petrol/modified stuff, not compression-ignition torque monsters.

To be sure, punch the exact car into the official high‑powered vehicle check, because two trims of the “same” model can land on different sides of the line.

If you’ve got a genuine need (work, medical, rural), exemptions exist—but don’t expect miracles for a track special with a wing big enough to shade Bondi.

Drive legal, keep the plates on, and you’ll keep your licence—and your parents’ blood pressure—intact.
