can red p platers tow a trailer vic Page 6

Ah, the classic conundrum of the red P-plate wielding new driver wanting to haul a trailer around Victoria. The short answer: yes, but with strings attached. Red P platers in VIC can tow a trailer as long as the combined vehicle and trailer weight doesn’t exceed the limits set by VicRoads, which usually means staying under 4.5 tonnes GVM. However, the trailer must be properly registered and roadworthy, and remember, your driving restrictions still apply—no alcohol, no speeding, and no mucking about.

Be sure to check the latest from VicRoads to avoid any nasty surprises, and if you're buying a trailer, sites like Tradingpost might help you spot a bargain. Towing irresponsibly on your red Ps? That’s a fast ticket back to learner status.
