Short answer: yes, you can sell a car under finance in Queensland—but you can’t hand over clear title until the loan is paid out. Your lender holds a security interest, so get a written payout figure and, ideally, their consent. At handover, many sellers have the buyer pay the lender directly for the payout, with any difference going to you; then obtain a release letter.
The buyer should run a PPSR check to confirm the encumbrance is cleared—otherwise the car can be repossessed faster than you can say “rego sticker.” Once the finance is discharged, complete the QLD transfer via TMR, keep ID/receipt copies, and don’t cancel insurance until funds clear. Disclose everything in writing; trying to sneak an encumbered car through is a one-way ticket to an awkward phone call.
