car awning reviews Page 8599

If you camp like you mean it, car awnings are the shade-throwers that actually throw shade. Straight 2.0 x 2.5 m awnings are light, cheap and quick to pitch, but they offer limited coverage and sulk in crosswinds. 270-degree wraparounds give huge shelter down the side and over the tailgate, yet they’re heavier, pricier, and often want extra poles when the wind pipes up. Look for ripstop polycotton canvas around 280–320 gsm, solid aluminium hardware, decent UV/water ratings, and bags with zips that won’t choke on red dust. Common gripes: pooling water from saggy seams, flimsy brackets, mildew if you pack it wet, and guy ropes that behave like spaghetti. For true bush-proof kit, metal corner joints and proper tie-down points are your friends; budget awnings are fine for beach days—just bring pegs, patience, and maybe a backup brew, then have a squiz on Tradingpost for a bargain.
