car for work tax deduction Page 2

Ah, the elusive car for work tax deduction—Australia's favourite financial loophole. Essentially, if you use your car for work purposes (beyond just commuting), you can claim some expenses back from the taxman. This includes running costs like fuel, servicing, insurance, and depreciation. The ATO allows two methods: the cents per kilometre method (up to 5,000 km at 78 cents/km) or the logbook method, which requires diligent record-keeping over 12 weeks to calculate your work-related usage percentage.

Keep in mind, pure commuting from home to your regular workplace is a no-go for deductions. Also, if your employer reimburses you, claiming might be redundant. For more details and forms, check out the ATO website or chat with your accountant. Meanwhile, browse Tradingpost or CarShowroom for vehicles that won't bankrupt you before the tax refund hits.
