car record check

A car record check in Australia means verifying the vehicle isn’t stolen, encumbered, written off, or otherwise paper-suspect.

Start with a PPSR search using the VIN; for a few dollars it reveals finance owing, write-off status, and whether it’s reported stolen.

Then run a rego check with your state authority to confirm registration, expiry, and that the engine/VIN match, and eyeball the service log for consistent kilometres.

Add a paid history report if you want extras like odometer trends, past sales and damage flags, and check recalls with the manufacturer or the ACCC database.

Finally, make sure the seller’s ID matches the name on the paperwork; if it smells like week-old prawns, walk away.
