In Australia, 2023 was the last hurrah for Temporary Full Expensing: if you bought a business-use car and had it ready for use by 30 June 2023, you could immediately deduct the business-use share up to the ATO car cost limit of $64,741 (2022–23).
From 1 July 2023, the party shrank: the instant asset write-off returned at $20,000 per asset for eligible small businesses, so most cars go back to normal depreciation and are still capped by the car limit.
Only your business-use percentage is deductible (keep a logbook), GST credits are capped to the same limit, and Luxury Car Tax may clobber the fancy stuff.
EV FBT exemptions can be a clever angle for salary packaging, but that’s a different game to deductions—talk to your accountant before doing celebratory skids, and confirm details with the ATO.
