car transfer fees qld Page 8

In Queensland, transferring a car involves a fee known as the transfer duty, which is based on the sale price or market value of the vehicle, whichever is higher. The rate is typically 3% for vehicles valued up to $100,000, with higher rates applying to more expensive cars. Apart from the transfer duty, there may be additional registration transfer fees of about $40-$50. New cars attract on-road costs including stamp duty and registration, which can add a few thousand dollars to the price. For used cars, prices vary widely; checking listings on Tradingpost or CarShowroom can give you a good ballpark. Always budget for these transfer fees when buying or selling to avoid nasty surprises at the Department of Transport.
