car tyre rotation

Rotating car tyres isn’t witchcraft; it’s housekeeping for rubber.

In Australia, a solid rule is every 8,000–10,000 km or at each service, sooner if you tow or drive like every roundabout is Bathurst.

For FWD, move the front tyres straight back and cross the rears to the front; for RWD, move the rears straight to the front and cross the fronts to the rear; AWD/4WD often go straight front-to-back to keep wear uniform.

Directional tyres stay on the same side, and staggered set-ups (wider rears) can’t swap front↔rear; if non-directional, you can swap left↔right on the same axle.

After rotating, set pressures to the placard, check tread and dates, and get a balance/alignment if you feel shimmy or see odd wear.

Torque wheel nuts to the manufacturer spec and enjoy quieter, longer-lasting tyres—because guessing with a breaker bar ends in tears and wheel studs.
