caravan roadworthy requirements qld Page 8

In Queensland, a caravan roadworthy isn’t just a nod and a wink — you’ll need a current Safety Certificate before you advertise it for sale or transfer rego (yes, even online listings).

It applies to caravans (trailers) with an ATM of 751 kg up to 3.5 t; under 750 kg are generally exempt. Inspectors look at the grown‑up stuff: lights/reflectors, tyres, brakes and wheel bearings, tow coupling and safety chains, chassis/suspension condition, and that the VIN/ID plates are legible. Everything must be secure and functional — no cracked drawbars, no tyres balder than your uncle, and electrics that actually illuminate. If it’s fitted with gas appliances, make sure the installation complies with QLD rules and get a current gas compliance certificate from a licensed gasfitter. For private sellers, a Safety Certificate typically stays valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from issue, so don’t dawdle before you pop it on Tradingpost.
