cents per km 2023 fy Page 7

For the 2022–23 Australian financial year, the ATO’s cents-per-kilometre rate is 78 cents per km under the cents-per-km method.

It covers running costs like fuel, servicing, rego, insurance and depreciation, so no double-dipping on those.

You’re capped at 5,000 business kilometres per car, which tops out at about $3,900.

No logbook is required, but keep notes showing how you estimated your business kilometres—weekend pie runs don’t count.

Prefer spreadsheets and pain? That’s the logbook method; choose one method per car per year and stick with it.
