If you’re claiming in Australia, the ATO’s cents-per-kilometre method around 2022 runs like this: 72 cents/km for the 2021–22 financial year and 78 cents/km for 2022–23.
It covers running costs (fuel, servicing, tyres, rego, insurance)—so no double-dipping with separate receipts for those.
You can claim up to 5,000 business km per car per year, and you’ll need a reasonable basis for your work-use estimate (logbook, diary, or something better than “vibes”).
Employer car allowances are still assessable income; this rate just helps work out your deduction. Tidy, simple, and about as thrilling as beige paint—but effective.
