About this page

change a tyre

Yes, you can change a tyre without summoning roadside assistance, or your uncle who 'knows cars'.

  • Park on level ground, handbrake on, hazards flashing, chock a wheel, and find the proper jack point in the handbook.
  • Crack the wheel nuts a quarter-turn while the tyre is still on the ground.
  • Jack it up until the tyre lifts, remove the nuts, and pull the wheel straight off.
  • Fit the spare, align the holes, and hand-tighten the nuts in a star pattern.
  • Lower the car and tighten the nuts firmly in a star pattern; stow tools and check the spare’s pressure.

If it’s a space-saver, keep it under 80 km/h and get the punctured tyre repaired promptly.
