change rego plates vic Page 4

Swapping or replacing rego plates in Vic is a VicRoads job—no, the bloke at the servo can’t do it with a sausage sizzle and a shifter.

Book or visit VicRoads, bring ID and your vehicle/registration details, and expect a fee; for personalised plates you order them first, then fit them once issued.

Lost or stolen plates? Report it to police, grab the reference number, and VicRoads will issue replacements so you don’t look like you’ve borrowed the car from a spy film.

If you’re changing plates between vehicles, the names and rego status need to align and the plates must be eligible—otherwise you’ll be politely told to jog on.

Hand in old plates when required (such as cancellations or some replacements), tighten the new ones properly, and you’re legal again faster than a tram can ding you.
