Changing personalised plates in Australia is almost easy—like swapping thongs, except there’s paperwork and someone pockets a fee. You order the new combo with your state road authority (VicRoads, Service NSW, TMR QLD, etc.), pay up, and have it assigned to your rego. Once approved, they issue or post the plates; you bolt them on front and rear, and surrender or retain the old ones as your state demands. The registry updates the records (often automatic), but do tell your insurer so they don’t have a small meltdown. If you’re moving plates between your own cars or selling a set, most states allow transfers, but there are forms and transfer fees because of course there are. Keep the car registered at all times and never display plates not assigned to it—fines come faster than a magpie in spring.
