Chasing the cheapest cars 2023? In Australia, the budget darlings were light hatches like the MG 3, Kia Picanto and Suzuki Ignis, with new pricing roughly $19,000–$25,000 AUD before on-roads, and occasional drive-away promos dipping lower. For used, near-new 2023 examples typically sit around $16,000–$22,000, while older small hatches (2016–2020) land in the $8,000–$15,000 zone if you’re not fussed about the new-car smell. Demo and run-out stock often undercuts RRP by a grand or three, so timing is everything. Don’t forget stamp duty, rego, insurance and tyres—bargains still have running costs. For cross-shopping private sellers and dealers alike, Tradingpost is a handy hunting ground.
