For 2023, the cheapest hybrid SUV in Australia is typically the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid (GX 2WD), from around AUD $30k–$33k new before on‑roads.

Next rung up are the Toyota C‑HR Hybrid (mid‑$30k to about $40k new) and budget challengers like the Haval Jolion Hybrid (often around $40k drive‑away).

On the used market, early Yaris Cross Hybrids generally start in the mid‑$20k to low‑$30k range depending on km and trim, with C‑HR Hybrids a touch higher.

Watch for long wait times, on‑road charges and dealer accessories that nudge the “cheap” bit north; and note PHEVs (like MG HS Plus EV) are plug‑ins, not regular hybrids.
