cheapest small car 2023 Page 5

If you wanted the cheapest new runabout in 2023 Australia, the usual suspects were the MG3 and Kia Picanto, with drive-away prices roughly in the $19k–$22k ballpark, while a Suzuki Ignis typically sat around the mid-20s. In the bigger “small car” class (think Corolla/i30 rivals), entry models like an MG 5 or base Hyundai i30/Cerato commonly landed around $25k–$29k drive-away depending on deals and manuals vs autos. Used shopping was kinder to wallets: tidy 5–8-year-old small hatches from mainstream brands often ranged $8k–$15k depending on kilometres and condition, with pandemic price madness easing late in the year. As ever, check service history, get a pre-purchase inspection, and remember: a “bargain” that can’t stop or steer isn’t cheap, it’s foreshadowing.
