Want to check a car reg in Australia? Use your state’s official rego-check service (think Service NSW, VicRoads, TMR QLD, DOT WA, SA’s EzyReg, Access Canberra, etc.) with the plate or VIN to confirm status, expiry, and conditions.
If you’re buying, also run a PPSR check (about AUD $2) using the VIN to spot finance owing, write-off, or stolen status—vital if you like keeping cars you’ve paid for. Screenshots aren’t proof; get the report yourself and match VINs on plates, compliance label, and windscreen. It won’t show fines or personal info, but it’ll keep you out of “whoops, that’s encumbered” territory. If anything smells dodgy, walk away and let someone else collect the cautionary tale.
